At $Company, we set short-term goals and projects on a quarterly basis.
We have found that 3 months/13 weeks is a good horizon to produce a small but significant result (a project or a process output) end-to-end.
13 weeks for team development
A quarter also gives a team enough time to go through the five phases of team development:
- forming
- storming
- norming
- performing
- adjourning
Elements of our Quarterly plan
At $Company, our short-term (quarterly plan) has targets for:
- Inspiration: Quarterly Theme, often with a contest attached
- Projects/Programs: Quarterly OKRs
- Market Presence: Quarterly Release
- Success Metrics: Quarterly KPIs
