At $COMPANY we use the Objectives and Key Results framework both on an annual and on a quarterly level.

What are annual OKRs

Annual OKRs are goals we set that are complex enough to encompass multiple sub-goals, and that will typically take more than a quarter to complete.

For example:

  • launching a new feature could be a quarterly OKR
  • launching a new product could be an annual OKR, especially when subdivided into quarterly milestones such as:

    1. Product research (which could be a quarterly OKR in that year)
    2. Product and engineering design
    3. Development and testing
    4. Marketing launch

Comparison to traditional project management

We can often compare Annual OKRs to “Programs” in the terminology of traditional project management.
